Ready for lift-off? The Alien Spotters Club is a new space-themed sensory story in HelpKidzLearn’s Inclusive Stories, full of unusual creatures, sensory discoveries and opportunities to join in.
Climb aboard and set off on an alien-spotting adventure through the solar system. Meet twinkling robots on Mars, bubble-blowing Bubble-Snerts on Jupiter and dancing Boogyboos on Mercury. Each stop brings something different to discover, before everyone comes together for a party on the moon. With playful rhymes and a familiar singalong to finish, there’s plenty to enjoy together.
The Alien Spotters Club is full of opportunities for sensory exploration. Add bubbles for Jupiter, soft furry textures for Neptune or crinkly silver materials for Mercury’s dance party. You can keep things simple with a few familiar props or build a richer sensory session with lights, sounds and movement. Choose experiences that suit your learners and give them time to explore, respond and show you what they enjoy.
From anticipating the rocket countdown to asking for more bubbles, the story creates opportunities to practise communication, choice-making and turn-taking. Repeating favourite moments can help learners recognise what comes next and become more involved. Switch-adapted props, such as a bubble machine or disco light, can also add opportunities to explore cause and effect by starting an action themselves. For learners ready to extend the adventure, try matching creatures to their planets, exploring colours or inventing a new alien together.
Learners can access the on-screen story using touch, a mouse, switches or eye gaze. Choose the access method that works for them so they can take an active role in storytelling. Away from the screen, joining in might mean looking towards a prop, reaching for a texture, making a sound or communicating “more” or “stop”. Follow each learner’s responses and enjoy the adventure at their pace.
The Alien Spotters Club comes with a story script, delivery notes and lesson ideas to help you plan your sessions. Explore printables including an Alien Spotters Handbook, puppets, masks and colouring sheets, plus space-themed recipes and four ChooseIt Maker activities. Character symbols and suggested AAC vocabulary support communication, while assessment and recording sheets help you notice responses and plan next steps. Choose what works for your learners and keep exploring together.
